What the OTHS Workmanship Guarantee Covers
When OTHS installs a fence in the Salem and Albany area, we stand behind the installation work itself. If something traces back to how the fence was put together — not how it was used or how the materials performed independently — we return and fix it.
Practical examples of issues that fall under workmanship:
- A post that wasn't set deep enough or with enough concrete, leading to lean or wobble
- Panels that weren't attached securely and pull loose under normal use
- Gate hardware that wasn't aligned correctly during install, causing the gate to bind or sag
- Finish work issues — uneven cuts, exposed nails, missed trim — that should have been caught at completion
- Layout mistakes that didn't match the approved plan
If any of these surface in the months or years after installation, the corrective work is on us.
What's Outside the Guarantee
A workmanship guarantee covers our work, not everything that can happen to a fence. Issues outside the scope include:
- Material defects — if a cedar plank cracks due to a manufacturing flaw rather than installation error, that falls under the material supplier's terms, and we'll help you navigate that process if it comes up
- External damage — vehicle impact, fallen trees from severe storms, vandalism, deliberate cuts, or other events caused by outside forces
- Aging within expected lifespan — natural weathering, gradual color change, expected fastener wear over 10-20 years
- Required maintenance — periodic staining or sealing on cedar, vinyl pressure washing, hardware lubrication; if you skip recommended maintenance, the resulting wear isn't a workmanship issue
We're explicit about this scope so you know what to expect both ways.
How to Use the Guarantee If You Need To
If something doesn't seem right with a recent install, the process is straightforward:
- Contact OTHS directly with a description and ideally a photo of the issue
- We schedule an assessment visit, often within a few days
- If the issue is workmanship-covered, the corrective work is performed by the original install team or an equivalent affiliate installer — each with 10+ years of fence-building experience
- The fix is completed at no additional cost to you
Most issues that surface get addressed quickly because the work is local and the team is experienced.
Why This Matters
A workmanship guarantee establishes clear accountability: when OTHS installs a fence for your Salem or Albany area property, you know who's responsible if something traces to install rather than weather, manufacturer, or external damage. The 10+ year experienced affiliate installers we work with reduce the odds of needing to use the guarantee in the first place — but having it documented matters.
OTHS provides same-day estimates on new fence installations across the Salem, Albany, and surrounding Willamette Valley area. The workmanship guarantee terms are part of every estimate and project agreement, not buried in fine print.
