House Washing vs Pressure Washing: The Difference
Not all cleaning methods are the same. Learn the difference between house washing and pressure washing and when to use each.
They Sound the Same. They're Not.
Homeowners use "house washing" and "pressure washing" as if they mean the same thing. They don't. The distinction matters — because applying the wrong method to your home's exterior can cause thousands of dollars in damage.
Pressure Washing
What it is: Water forced through a nozzle at high pressure (1,500–4,000 PSI) to physically blast debris off surfaces.
What it's for: Hard surfaces — concrete driveways, brick, pavers, stone retaining walls. These materials can withstand the mechanical force without damage.
What happens if you use it on siding: Water gets forced behind vinyl panels, potentially causing moisture damage inside your walls. Wood siding gets gouged and splintered. Paint is stripped. Stucco cracks.
House Washing (Soft Washing)
What it is: Water applied at very low pressure (under 500 PSI) combined with a biodegradable cleaning solution. The chemical does the cleaning work; the water rinses it away.
What it's for: Your home's exterior — siding (vinyl, wood, fiber cement, stucco), trim, fascia, window frames, and painted surfaces.
Why it works: The cleaning solution breaks down dirt, mildew, moss, and biological growth chemically. No mechanical force is needed, so no damage occurs to the surface.
